Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Fountains of Wayne will be performing concert dates this year for the first time since 2013, and the shows are proceeding with the blessings of the family of the band’s co-founder, the late Adam Schlesinger, according to reps for the group. Plans for a reunited iteration of Fountains of Wayne to do at least two festivals in 2025, and most likely more, were revealed Thursday.

Fountains Of Wayne have shared the details of their first gigs since the passing of bassist Adam Schlesinger.Schlesinger, a founding member of the band, movie and TV composer and Emmy and Grammy-award winner, passed away back in 2020 at the age of 52 from complications related to COVID-19.Now, five years after his passing, Fountains Of Wayne have announced that they will be reuniting to play at Milwaukee’s Summerfest on July 4 and Ocean City’s Oceans Calling on September 26. Charlie Amter The surviving members of New York trio Ivy are taking a look back this year at one of their most beloved albums, “Apartment Life,” which is celebrating a 25th anniversary. The group was one of two ’90s-era indie acts to feature the late Emmy- and Grammy-winning musician Adam Schlesinger, who in addition to being a key member of both Ivy and Fountains of Wayne wrote music for the 1996 Tom Hanks vehicle “That Thing You Do!” and “Crazy Ex Girlfriend,” among others. On March 3, Bar/None Records will drop a reissue of the set, with two previously unreleased tracks, and Variety can exclusively reveal that the band will also release a Record Store Day exclusive of the demo versions of “Apartment Life” (in the same sequence as the final studio record) on Saturday, April 22; the “Apartment Life” demos will also be available on streaming services from July 21 onwards. Adam Schlesinger’s girlfriend has opened up about her final moments with the Fountains Of Wayne singer in a heartbreaking post on Instagram, revealing she FaceTimed his parents and two daughters to let them say goodbye.

The girlfriend of Fountains of Wayne co-frontman Adam Schlesinger posted the last photo of them together along with a lengthy caption detailing her how he spent his final moments. The Emmy- and Grammy-winning musician and songwriter, who was also known for his work on the TV show “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” died on April 1 at a hospital in upstate New York due to complications from the coronavirus.

As a tribute to their late bandmate Adam Schlesinger—who died on April 1 of COVID-19 complications—Fountains of Wayne will reunite for their first live performance in seven years. The reunion is taking place on the JERSEY 4 JERSEY coronavirus relief benefit concert on April 22. They’ll be joined by Sharon Van Etten, who will fill in on bass and backing vocals.
