Pensioner turned down free painting that turned out to be £13m Van Gogh masterpiece

A pensioner has admitted turning down a £13 million Van Gogh masterpiece, in place of a brass bell which is now worth just £1.

In 1967, Gaye Horrell was offered the "Peasant Woman in Front of a Farmhouse" painting for free, reports Daily Mail. The 76-year-old now admits she had been "very naive" to say no to the painting, that was sold last week at the The European Fine Art Fair in Holland.

At the time, Gaye was married to Tim Holme and her in-laws had asked her if she wanted anything from their farmhouse before they went on to sell.

They offered her the Van Gogh piece, created in 1885, which was given to the Holme's in 1929 in exchange for farm supplies. However, they convinced her it was "not worth having" so instead she opted for a brass
