JK Rowling has voiced her fears for free speech after she was branded 'transphobic' for her comments about transgender people.
The Harry Potter author, 54, has joined 150 high profile names in the arts, including Sir Salman Rushdie and Margaret Atwood, who have signed a letter published in Harper's Magazine that hits out at 'public shaming' and the 'intolerant climate' for free speech.
It comes after Rowling took issue with the use of the phrase "people who menstruate" instead of saying women, as she shared her reservations about transgender women using women's bathrooms and changing rooms in an essay published on her website.
