A retired civil servant with an MBE died after allegedly being attacked while walking his dog. Ralph Baxter, 74, was a former Labour party agent and trade union leader who lived with his wife Anne in the village of Roade, near Northampton.
On Wednesday afternoon he was out walking his Shih Tzu called Bertie in a bridle path near his home when the dog was allegedly attacked by a larger Husky, local residents said.
Two men were then involved in an altercation, police said. Mr Baxter, who had worked for the Department of Work and Pensions, made it back to his home where he reportedly collapsed in his front room.
