One in five coronavirus patients in the UK caught the bug while in hospital, Government papers reportedly reveal. At the peak of the pandemic, transmission via wards accounted for 22% of Covid-19 cases in hospital and 11% of deaths, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), which published the figures yesterday, also says they are "very likely to be an underestimate" as they do not include staff or patients attending outpatient appointments.
