Fred received the ball from Harry Maguire on the edge of his own penalty area as United tried to build play, but his weak pass back to Dean Henderson allowed Kelechi Iheanacho to open the scoring in Leicester's 3-1 win.
United have looked to construct play from the back more often this season and Solskjaer believes they have made progress with it, despite the mistake at the King Power Stadium.
