No stage or countdown to Christmas light switch-on in Kilmarnock this year

There will be no stage or official countdown at the switch-on of Kilmarnock's Christmas lights this year.East Ayrshire Leisure have confirmed that this Sunday's festive event will be missing a few aspects locals have become accustomed to.In recent pre-covid years a huge stage at the cross has been the focal point of the switch-on ceremonies with performers entertaining the masses.

But organisers have confirmed that the stage won't be making an appearance this year.In addition, there will be no official countdown for the lights being turned on or special guest to flick the switch.Instead, market stalls, carol singers, music, performers from the Kilmarnock cheerleaders and street entertainment will fill the town centre this weekend.It's understood that organisers wanted to make this year's Christmas offering more accessible with more free events for everyone throughout the festive period.East Ayrshire Leisure have organised a magical Illuminight-style festive event at the Dean Castle to run throughout December.Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines –sign up to our free daily newsletter here
