NHS coronavirus nurse's 13-hour shift 'like being on a battlefield'

A nurse working in intensive care at London's Royal Brompton Hospital has said "it's like being on a battlefield." Maria Lizcano Gómez, who has said that she loves her job and colleagues, but revealed as soon as she gets to work "something is not right and I feel it as soon as I step on to my unit".

It's been two weeks since Maria started caring for coronavirus patients and described having to work for 13 hours wearing the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) "isn't easy" and "claustrophobic".

She told The Sun: "By the end of my shift, my nose and cheeks are sore and red." Maria also added that even though staff appear "calm" on the outside, they are "panicking" on the inside.
