The Crown will reportedly 'pause' filming following the death of the Queen. Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully, aged 96, on Thursday afternoon.

Her death was announced at around 6.30pm following the release of a brief statement by Buckingham Palace. The Palace said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow." Her sad passing comes 17 months after she mourned the loss of her beloved husband of 73 years, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died aged 99 in April 2021.

It was broadcaster Huw Edwards who delivered the news of the Queen’s death live on BBC One. After an image of the flag at Buckingham Palace was shown at half mast, he told viewers: "A few moments ago Buckingham Palace announced the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."
