King Charles fights back tears as he returns to work following cancer diagnosis

An emotional King Charles was seen fighting back tears as he resumed his public duties amid ongoing cancer treatment.The King, accompanied by Queen Camilla, visited the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in London today to meet with staff and patients.This comes after doctors expressed satisfaction with his progress following treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer.For over two decades, Charles has been a patron of Macmillan Cancer Support.It has now been revealed that he has also become a patron of Cancer Research UK, an organisation "dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information".The purpose of today's visit is to highlight the significance of early cancer diagnosis and to learn about innovative research into the disease.

As the newly appointed patron of Cancer Research UK, King Charles will also meet with the organisation's chief clinician, Professor Charlie Swanton, who is leading a project called TRACERx that focuses on lung and other cancers, reports the Mirror.

Aside from attending an Easter Sunday church service, the King has until now stayed away from public events. Buckingham Palace provided an update on Friday regarding the King's health and his anticipated return to public engagements.The Palace confirmed that the King is still receiving cancer treatment and it was premature to speculate on the duration of this treatment.A Palace spokesperson said: "His Majesty's medical team are very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about the King's continued recovery".The King's schedule for upcoming events will not be as packed as a typical summer programme, with his participation in future events to be confirmed closer to the dates "subject to doctors'
