Fire crews were called to the site on Bayley Street in Stalybridge at about 6.40am on Wednesday. Around 15 firefighters spent around three hours at the scene.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: "We currently have three fire engines responding to a fire at a recycling centre on Bayley Street in Stalybridge. "Local residents are advised to keep their doors and windows shut as we deal with this incident."
