NBA icon Lebron James has become only the second athlete in history to become a billionaire. The Los Angeles Lakers star has been valued at $1billion (£800million) by Forbes, following in the footsteps of fellow basketball legend Michael Jordan.

Jordan became a billionaire in 2014, 11 years after retiring, through his investment in the Charlotte Hornets, with James doing so while still being an active player.The 37-year-old has achieved the feat through a series of highly valuable investments, which includes his stake in Liverpool via the Fenway Sports Group, who also own the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL franchise.James also owns stakes in a production company, a pizza chain and headphone manufacturer Beats Audio.

His investments in Beats, Beachbody Fitness and Ladder Nutrition are worth a combined £400million.Meanwhile, the Spring Hill Production Company earns James around £240million, which he invested in through his long-time business partner Maverick Carter.The production studio helped to produce the Space Jam reboot in 2021, which James starred in, and have six projects listed for 2022 and 2023.His Fenway Sports Group stake is worth an additional £71.5million, with real estate and his Blaze Pizza chain worth £88million.Who will be the next athlete to become a billionaire?
