A mum who faked ovarian cancer and collected more than £45,000 in GoFundMe donations from 600 generous strangers has been jailed for almost three years.
Nicole Elkabbas, from Broadstairs, Kent, was found guilty of fraud after scamming well-wishers, who were moved by the story that she made up, and spending the cash on shopping trips, holidays in Barcelona and Rome, gambling and a club box at Tottenham Hotspur football club.
The convincing online fundraiser even featured a "staged" picture of her lying in a hospital bed - in a "scheme designed to trick and to con".
She spoke about an ovarian cancer diagnosis, subsequent surgery and round after round of gruelling chemotherapy in what prosecutors said were "detailed lies".
