The last thing a mum heard before a stolen car smashed head-on into her son's vehicle during a police chase was the sound of his scream.

Tanya Slinger, 45, saw a bright light then heard a "boom" as the vehicle smacked into her son Aidan's car She had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters at the scene in Netherton, Merseyside, at around 9.30pm Monday.

Tanya, who had been on her way to her 25-year-old son Daniel's partner's house. He was nearby when the crash happened rushed to the scene to find his family-members injured.

Tanya remains in hospital "in agony" after suffering extensive internal bruising and has been given morphine for the pain, reports the Liverpool Echo.
