Movie theatres are set to re-open in France next month (June 2020) following the country’s coronavirus shutdown. Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced on Thursday (May 28, 2020) that cinemas will open on June 22 (2020) – a week ahead of French Culture Minister Franck Riester‘s previous planned return.

Social distancing measures will be in place, with masks required for all filmgoers. Restaurants, bars, and cafes across the country will begin opening on June 2 (2020).

The country is now in the second phase of easing coronavirus measures following the deaths of over 28,000. Like many countries across the globe, France began a nationwide lockdown in early March.
