Millions of people on Universal Credit unaware they qualify for free NHS prescriptions

Millions of people on Universal Credit are being encouraged to check if they’re eligible for free NHS treatment. It comes as claims for the six-in-one support have rocketed since the start of March - with one million people now claiming it as their full time income.

If you’re claiming Universal Credit, you may be entitled to free prescriptions, regardless of your age and whether you have any dependents.

Brendan Brown, at the NHSBSA, explains: "There’s an assumption that everyone claiming Universal Credit is automatically entitled to free prescriptions and dental treatment – but this is a mistaken belief.
