Meghan Markle's claim that she was told people in South Africa celebrated her marriage to Prince Harry "the same we did when Mandela was freed from prison" is beginning to unravel.
Dr John Kani, an acclaimed actor and friend of Nelson Mandela, described Mandela's walk to freedom after 27 years as a "landmark moment".

Dr Kani claims to be the only South African cast member of the film, and revealed that he had never met Meghan. Discussing the supposed interaction at the premiere in her recent bombshell interview with The Cut, Meghan said: "He [an unnamed South African cast member] looked at me, and he’s just like light. "He said: 'I just need you to know: When you married into this family, we rejoiced in the streets the same we did when Mandela was freed from prison.'"Dr Kani - who voiced Rafiki in the remake - told the MailOnline that he was the only South African in the film, that he did not attend the UK premiere, and that he's never met Meghan.He added: "I cannot even tell you now what month she married or what year."That [Mandela's release] was a world event.
