An employee at a biscuit factory took his own life after fearing he wouldn’t get a redundancy payout, his family claim. Andy Millar, 55, had worked at McVitie’s for 37 years, but following an incident on the production line, he thought he might be sacked instead of made redundant, his loved ones say.

He was aware that the factory was due to close, with around 500 workers at the plant in Tollcross, Glasgow, facing job losses.

But Andy was worried he would be instantly dismissed with no payout following an incident last Sunday evening. The father, who had suffered from depression on and off for twenty years, had not been feeling well during his shift that day and had asked to cut it short, according to his daughter, Emma Millar, 27.
