Scots McVitie's worker took his own life 'over fears he would not get redundancy payout'

McVitie's biscuit factory took his own life because of fears he would not get a redundancy payout, his family claim. The distraught family of Andy Millar, 55, who had worked for the firm for 37 years, said he was sent home last Sunday evening after an incident on the production line.

Just a few hours later Andy, who had suffered bouts of depression for 20 years, sent concerning texts to colleagues, who called police.

His daughter Emma Millar, 27, said her father had not been feeling well during his shift and had asked to cut it short.When bosses refused, he returned to work on the shortbread line and had spelled out a rude word using biscuits.He was later called into an office and the family claim he was told he would be suspended for three.
