Salford's mayor has vowed to "do everything we can" to protect the future of legendary Salford Lads Club. The crisis-hit club needs to find £250,000 by the end of November to avoid closure.

A fundraiser launched by the M.E.N. has so far raised more than £25,000 to support the Ordsall-based club. "The news of the Clubs financial troubles, with rising operating costs and drops in funding leading to a shortfall of around £250,000, is concerning. "I welcome the Manchester Evening News’ fundraiser, and the plans to set up a Salford Lads and Girls Club Legacy Fund, to ensure the clubs future
