Rangers star Mark Walters received appalling racist abuse in his playing days - but his team-mates were silent. Now he's heartened by the Black Lives Matter message that has entered the consciousness of Scottish football as the sport unites against bigotry.
Abuse was sadly a constant in Walters' career but it worsened following his switch from Aston Villa to Ibrox back in 1987. The English winger was forced to rise above monkey chants and fruit-throwing on his first outing as a Light Blue at Celtic Park, before being hit by a banana at Tynecastle shortly after.
The game has moved on considerably and Premiership players will continue to take a knee before games in defiance of discrimination.
