good old picnic, and mine normally take place on the riverbank with my friend Robin Hutson. Quite often, if the weather or fishing is poor, lunch will take up the best part of the day.I always do the food – it might be anything from a kilo of beef on the barbecue to a truite au bleu, which is a classic French dish of freshly caught trout which turns blue when it hits the simmering court bouillon.

Robin sorts the wine, which certainly ups the stakes for any observing guests on the river.Most people don’t make much of an effort with picnics, but they should be as much fun as any meal.

Make sure not to forget the basics like cutlery, plates, napkins, a bin liner and so on.This is the beef wellington of pork pies and it all rests on how good the filling is.

If you have a trusty butcher who makes his own sausages then that’s perfect, otherwise you will need to flavour up some minced pork.
