Manchester United have shortlisted Ralf Rangnick to take over as interim manager. United have had their initial approach for Mauricio Pochettino rejected by Paris Saint-Germain but remain confident of appointing the Argentinian as their next permanent manager.
Amid the possibility of PSG keeping Pochettino, United have started conducting interviews for an interim manager's role and have already held discussions with the former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde and former Roma coach Rudi Garcia.
The United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and managing director Richard Arnold did not travel to Spain for the club's 2-0 Champions League win over Villarreal in order to interview candidates.
