Michael Carrick has told Manchester United's players that they can still make a success of this season and win silverware as he prepares to hand over to interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Carrick's spell as caretaker manager is expected to end after Sunday's trip to Stamford Bridge to take on European champions and Premier League leaders Chelsea.
United are already 12 points behind Thomas Tuchel's side after a dozen games and a title challenge from here looks unlikely, but Carrick's first game as caretaker - a 2-0 win in Villarreal on Tuesday - not only secured qualification to the last-16 of the Champions League but also guaranteed top spot in the group.
