direct to your inboxA dad from Manchester has been removed from a deportation flight bound for Jamaica just hours before it was due to take off.The charter flight left the UK for the Caribbean island at around 2am on Wednesday carrying 13 people, the Home Office confirmed.A total of 37 Jamaican nationals were taken off the flight after a last-minute legal intervention led by the human rights organisation Detention Action, backed by some Labour MPs.They included a Jamaican-born dad from Manchester, who was earmarked for deportation after serving a three-year sentence for a criminal offence committed whilst living in the UK.The Home Secretary, Priti Patel, defended the Home Office's decision to deport 50 nationals with criminal convictions.
