Shane Warne has been painted over with an advert for whiskey.Warne tragically passed away in March this year at the age of just 52 after suffering a heart attack while on holiday in Thailand.
The cricket legend was one of the biggest stars in the history of the sport, having taken 708 Test wickets during his illustrious career. And he was a bona fide superstar in Australia, having transcended cricket through a combination of his skill as a leg-spinner, natural charisma and colourful personality.
Following his passing, artist Callum Hotham spray-painted a mural of Warne on a wall in Sydney. However, Warne's likeness has now been replaced with an advertisement for whiskey brand Maker's Mark.
Mark Vincent commissioned the mural through his advertising agency Habitat Media and has now revealed there is a simple reason why it has been removed. "I had to had to pay the lady [who owns the wall] for the mural, and because I was busy with other work, I didn't have time to follow up and continue to pay," he told news.com.au. "The wall is normally commissioned as a commercial mural, but I took the opportunity to get the portrait up of Shane Warne."It would have been a nice one to keep, but unfortunately I don't have jurisdiction over the wall.
