Sotona has impressed in action for the U18s and U23s but he is yet to agree terms on a professional contract, despite turning 17 in December last year.
According to a report from the Athletic, Sotona is the subject of interest from a number of clubs in Italy, Spain, Germany and France and he is unsure whether United is the best place to continue his development.
He is said to be highly rated by club officials and talks are set to resume, with United hoping they can convince him to stay.
