Liverpool under-23s beat their Manchester United counterparts in an eight-goal thriller in which both sides played the last half-hour with 10 men.
There was a red card apiece in the 61st minute, with Liverpool leading 5-1 at the time after a composed performance which blew their hosts away.
Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarke was sent off for the kind of challenge that wouldn't have been out of place in a senior clash between the two bitter rivals.
And United forward Shola Shoretire also saw red after he shoved Clarkson in reaction to the incident. There was time for a late fightback from United, who fired two more goals for a final 5-3 scoreline that made the result look closer than it had been for much of the game.
