He's 23 but hasn't been named, Greater Manchester Police confirmed. A spokesman for the force said the man was taken to hospital, where he remained on Sunday afternoon in a critical condition.
Police aren't looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Officers were called to Ducie Street in the city centre at around 8am on Sunday.
Cordons were then established. In a statement to the Manchester Evening News police described the man's injuries as 'serious'. Samaritans (116 123) samaritans.org operates a 24-hour service available
