London footballer called up to play for Rwanda after being spotted in Sunday League

Wycombe Wanderers as a teenager.The young forward was featuring for his Sunday League team when a friend, who plays for the Rwandan national side, showed the coaching staff his highlights reel.Isima, who qualifies to play for Rwanda via his grandmother, then received an invitation to train with their under-23 squad.He travelled with the squad to Africa last July, to participate in a warm-up camp ahead of a tournament in Ethiopia.But the Rwanda team eventually pulled out of the competition due to rising concerns surrounding coronavirus cases."My story, it’s pretty unique," Isima told The Mirror."I got into the Rwanda squad through a recommendation.

It was very exciting."I was playing Sunday league and in the same year I played for my national team."After suffering an early setback in his career, Isima has been unattached to a club since leaving League 1 Wycombe in 2017.

Unable to bag a pro contract, the youngster dropped down to Sunday League and has been enjoying his football at amateur level in London.HAVE YOUR SAY?
