Lockdown projects preserved for future generations at library
dailyrecord.co.ukTwo community projects completed during the strict Coronavirus lockdown will be preserved forever at Paisley Heritage Library.We’re Still Here was a project put together by Sally Logan, a health and well-being officer for Renfrewshire Council Sheltered Housing, and Paisley artist Karen Herbison.The aim of the project is to record the thoughts of the elderly sheltered housing residents who were shielding during the pandemic under three main themes: My lockdown experience, Who I am and Words of Wisdom.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.
Sign up to our newsletters here.The project started in November 2020 just as strict lockdown was coming back into force and before the vaccine rollout.
It resulted in poetry and stories being put on billboards around Paisley in early 2021. It was also put into a book, which has now been donated to Paisley Heritage Library.Karen also worked on The Lost Language of Making with the Star Project in Paisley, again during lockdown.As part of Renfrewshire Council’s Townscape Heritage and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme 2 (TH.Cars2), Karen worked with members of Star Project to create poetry inspired by historical Scottish making terms.The collection has also been handed over to the library and Karen said she is proud the lockdown work is being preserved for future generations.She said: “I could have gone along and handed it over myself but I didn’t feel that was right.
I wanted it to be for the ones who took part as well.“If I’m touched by my work being in the Heritage Library then it’s double for them.“A lot of them said they didn’t think anybody would ever read what they’d written.
