Police found a homeless person boozing in Manchester during lockdown - and discovered he was a convicted robber on the run having escaped prison.
Christopher Johnson, 35, was allowed out of HMP Thorn Cross near Warrington on day release during the morning of January 19 but he didn't return by 5pm as planned.
He had told prison officials he would be seeing family in Warrington town centre but when calls were made to his mobile phone that evening it went straight to voicemail, prosecutor Duncan Wilcock told Manchester Crown Court.
He was eventually located by a PC three months later on Tariff Street in Manchester's Northern Quarter in April 13 although at first he claimed to be called 'George Robinson' and gave a false address and date of
