Girl, 10, charged with murder after shooting woman who was in row with her mum
murder in Florida after shooting dead a woman who was in a fight with her mother. The Orlando Police Department say she was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder, following the incident on May 30, and was taken to the Juvenile Justice Centre without incident. The child fired two rounds at Lashun Rodgers at an apartment complex on Mercy Drive, in Orlando, after her mother Lakrisha Isaac had got into a heated argument with the victim, with the pair trading blows.During the fight, Isaac handed her daughter a bag and inside was a gun with which she twice shot Rodgers, who died later in hospital.Isaac was arrested not long after the killing and she is facing multiple charges including manslaughter, aggravated assault with a firearm, and child neglect.“This is one of the most tragic cases I have seen in my 22-year career,” said Monique Worrell, State Attorney for Orange and Osceola counties.“Our office has started the process of reviewing this case and will consider all of the facts, including the age of the child, and all of the surrounding circumstances, when making a charging decision.”A witness has described hearing the girl shout “she shouldn’t have hit my momma” after pulling the trigger at Rodgers. To stay up to date with all the latest news, make sure you sign up to one of our newsletters here.He also claimed that Isaac took the gun from the girl and aimed it at his chest after he tried to help Rodgers, causing him to run back to his nearby apartment. The victim’s aunt Arlene Mathis said of the murder: “She did not deserve that, it was a simple argument.“What mother does that? It’s not the actions of a child, it’s the actions of a mother.”

Innocent man, 26, 'cooked alive' after police taser him at petrol pump
cops tasered an innocent man who was filling up his motorbike at fuel petrol pump, causing an explosion that resulted in the victim suffering from "burns on approximately 75 per cent of his body".Jean Barreto, 26, sustained third-degree burns after the February incident when a Florida deputy sheriff tasered him when he was wrongly suspected of being a wanted member of a biker gang who had been hassling drivers.NeJame Law offices in Orange County, Florida, say their client was "cooked alive" after officers had tackled him from his bike while he was filling up.“While being cooked alive, Mr Barreto sustained third-degree burns on approximately 75 per cent of his body, front and back from his feet to the bottom of his neck,” a press release said, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The stricken man has had six gruelling surgeries to graft the new skin onto his body since the incident in February at a Wawa gas station.“He is wrapped and unwrapped in gauze daily, bleeding profusely still as he doesn’t have the requisite amount of skin to contain his body fluids.”The use of the stun gun was “reckless, foolish, unnecessary and deadly” the lawyers argued in their statement, adding that the “military tactics” used on Mr Barreto did not match the risk he posed.“The most probable cause of the fire was an electric discharge from the deputies deploying a department-issued taser device,” the report said.To stay up to date with all the latest news, make sure you sign up to one of our newsletters hereSurveillance video footage from the gas station appears to show one of the Osceola County sheriff’s deputies tackle Barreto after about a minute of him standing at the pump.

DeSantis’ Anti-LGBTQ Attack on Disney Could Hand Orlando Taxpayers $2 Billion of Debt – That’s $2200 Per Family: Report
Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is one-third of the way to punishing Disney for opposing his anti-LGBTQ legislation, the widely-discredited, potentially unconstitutional “Don’t Say Gay” law, but some Florida taxpayers are in for a reportedly multi-billion dollar shock if he signs on the dotted line.On Wednesday the Florida Senate, succumbing to DeSantis’ worst instincts, passed a bill that would eliminate a 1967 law that essentially created a 39-square mile area, now almost entirely occupied by Disney World, that enables it to act as its own government – including providing all the services, like power, water, sewers, police, and fire, that local governments do.Called the Reedy Creek Improvement District, DeSantis now wants to essentially void that law. The House is expected to pass that bill Thursday, putting DeSantis’ temper tantrum at his feet. But according to the Orange County Tax Collector, Orange County would be on the hook for “all debt and obligations with no extra funds,” meaning “Orange County would take on $163 million [in debt obligations] per year.”It gets worse for Florida taxpayers.“If Reedy Creek is dissolved, Orange and Osceola counties would assume responsibilities handled by the district like sewer and road maintenance, meaning taxpayers in those counties would pay, The Miami Herald reports.
