It’s mid-afternoon in Burlington, Vermont and singer-songwriter Lily Seabird is giving me an MTV Cribs-style tour of her home via Zoom. Dubbed “Trash Mountain” by tenants long before the singer-songwriter and her friends moved in, it’s a pink house on a decommissioned landfill site that Seabird makes sound romantic and grimy in equal measure. The pink and yellow slats on the outside lead to a ramshackle interior filled with wooden ladders and doors that need to be taped shut at night.

Vampire Weekend have announced a string of 2025 North American tour dates, set to kick off later this summer.Ezra Koeing and co will hit the road from May 10, starting with a slot at this year’s edition of Just Like Heaven Festival and another festival slot on May 25 at Boston Calling. From there, the band will make stops in cities across the US including Portland, Philadelphia, Columbus, Saratoga Springs, Asheville, Jacksonville and Miami.They will then wrap up their tour with a handful of festival appearances at the likes of Bonnaroo, Pukkelpop, Rock En Seine, Borderlands Festival and more.Geese and Turnstiles will be serving as opening support on select dates.A ticket pre-sale will be available for Citi cardmembers on Tuesday February 25 at 10am local time through the Citi Entertainment program.

The more-is-not-necessarily-better conundrum confronts the creators of “Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story,” a Vice News documentary about the punk folk band Gogol Bordello and Eugene Hütz, the band’s charismatic lead singer. Hütz also doubles as a Ukrainian activist/raconteur/resident deep thinker. He can be a lot. Audiences’ appreciation of the doc will depend on their patience with Hütz, a man whose intentions are good even if his volume is always set to 11.  Directors Nate Pommer and Eric Weinrib have the difficult task of trying to explain a 24-year-old cult band in 99 minutes. It is very much an immigrant story. There’s an early shot of Hütz swaggering onstage with the band — a mélange of violinists, drummers and guitarists — and baptizing the audience with his beer.

Nick Holdsworth Eugene Hütz, founder and frontman with U.S. gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello, would likely to have ended up a painter wearing “dirty pants and long hair” had his parents not left the Soviet Union when he was 16. “I would probably have become a painter, as there was more of a path paved in that in my family,” he says. “I was drawing most of my childhood and my uncle – Mikhail Mykolayev – is a pretty well-known painter who still lives in Kyiv.” Fresh from playing a brief, impromptu solo guitar gig at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, following the international premiere of a new documentary about the band, “Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story,” Hütz fits the bill, although his khaki cargo pants are not paint spattered.

Thank God for Owen Wilson. Without the star’s laconic laid-back comedic approach to character, his new film Paint would be strictly a comedy by-the-numbers affair. Even with Wilson offering his all as Carl Nargle, a local Burlington Vermont Public Television star whose time in the spotlight he has always held is fading quickly, Paint seems like a missed opportunity.

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic Carl Nargle (Owen Wilson), the amusingly ironic hero of “Paint” (ironic because, as we discover, he’s about as far from heroic as you can get), hosts a one-man instructional painting show that gets broadcast live out of the PBS station in Burlington, Vermont. Each afternoon, Carl appears on camera for one hour, puffing on his pipe, holding his brushes and palette as he dashes off an oil painting of a local wilderness setting (snowy mountains, twilight vistas, trees), explaining all the while, in the unruffled monotone of a stoned hypnotist, how you too can get to a “special place” just by painting what’s in your heart. Carl himself seems nearly as much of an art object as his canvases of Mt. Mansfield, the Vermont peak he has begun to paint with OCD frequency. He wears the same denim Western shirts, fuzzy beard and ash-blond Afro that he’s been sporting since 1979. He’s a relic: the landscape painter as Fred Rogers for adults, a kind of soft-rock guru from the age when men were Mellow. The biggest TV celebrity in Burlington, he thinks he’s on top of the world, but he’s about to come tumbling down.

Belle and Sebastian have announced a 2023 North American tour.The band will be playing across the UK and Europe from November, then heading over to start their US portion of the tour in Mexico on April 24 next year.The tour continues their live dates supporting new album ‘A Bit Of Previous’. black midi, the spiky and uncompromising British post-punk band, kick off their North American tour tonight (March 22) and have dropped a new covers EP to celebrate. Cavalcovers includes the group's take on "Love Story" by Taylor Swift plus “Moonlight On Vermont” by Captain Beefheart and King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man."
