The 6ft 3in Schalke defender has been described as the 'new Joel Matip', another player who came through the ranks at Schalke before eventually moving to Anfield on a free transfer in 2016.
The Reds' scouts have been impressed by Thiaw's skill set and according to the Mirror, the world champions could trigger the 18-year-old's £7m release clause.
Like Matip, Thiaw is described as a powerful, tall, ball-playing defender, who can also be deployed as a defensive midfielder if need be.
