Linford Christie has accused the Metropolitan Police of “institutional racism” after two athletes he manages were stopped and handcuffed while driving with their three-month-old baby.
The British Olympic 100m champion – who now runs sports agency Nuff Respect – demanded an explanation for what he condemned as an abuse of police stop and search powers.
Christie shared video footage of the incident online, which depicted officers physically restraining the athletes and apparently deciding not to practice social distancing consistently.
The sprinter directed his response to Met Police commissioner Dame Cressida Dick and questioned whether racial prejudice against the black athletes played a part in their treatment.
