Rangers defender Leon Balogun silenced his Super Eagles critics when he netted his first ever goal for Nigeria. The 33-year-old was hammered in the Nigerian press after a botched clearance in the 89th minute of Thursday's match with Central African Republic.

The Rangers centre-back's misplaced header landed at the feet of Karl Namganda, who slotted home with virtually the last kick of the game and nicked a 1-0 win in the Qatar 2022 qualifier.

CAR are ranked 124th in the world and it was the first time Nigeria have lost a World Cup qualifying fixture at home in 25 years.
