Gogglebox star Stephen Webb has pulled out of this Friday's episode after testing positive with coronavirus. Don Millar's documentary about Fernando Botero, one of the world's most popular living artists (the most popular, if you believe the film), proves similar to the many artworks it displays. While Botero proves an enjoyable and accessible primer about the octogenarian Colombian-born artist whose paintings and sculptures have delighted millions, it lacks the depth and context to make it more than an easily digestible tribute seemingly designed to be shown on an endless loop at the Museo Botero in Bogotá, Colombia.

It seems like every other week brings a new streaming service with it, but the May 27 launch of HBO Max is, indeed, a potential watershed moment. While presented as a branch of the existing HBO brand, it’s more accurately a WarnerMedia behemoth effort that unites the conglomerates many properties (plus a few original efforts) in one convenient place — that is, if you can figure out how to get it, let alone whether or not you already have access to it.

Hannah Gadsby begins her new Netflix special, Douglas, with a proclamation seldom heard in stand-up sets. It isn't as radical as her vow to "quit comedy" in Nanette, the Australian comic's Emmy- and Peabody-winning 2018 meta-comedy special that deconstructed joke structures to explain how humor can prop up power imbalances.

When Hannah Gadsby's 2018 Netflix special Nanette captured the zeitgeist, some people got mad at her for doing "a lecture, a glorified TED Talk, a one-woman show," not a stand-up comedy special. In her new special, Douglas, Gadsby responds directly to the haters by giving an actual lecture, and also indirectly, because Douglas is a stand-up special. Haters said she didn't do stand-up, so she responded with very funny stand-up. Douglas has the thoughtful craft and righteous anti-patriarchy anger you'd expect from the person who made Nanette, but it has a lighter touch, a looser structure, and no moment like the climax of Nanette in which she doesn't tell jokes, only truth. Douglas is, by design, funny all the way through.
