Jeremy Vine sparks outrage after saying ‘young Russian soldiers deserve to die’ as viewers demand he’s taken off air

JEREMY Vine is facing a ferocious backlash from viewers after he said Russian soldiers deserve to die. In a phone conversation with a viewer on his Channel 5 show, Jeremy had no sympathy for Russian soldiers and conscripts invading Ukraine.

Caller Bill, from Manchester, said: “Quite a number of those Russians you’ll probably find will go across… [some] were holding their hands up this morning not wanting to fight Ukrainians.

They were told lies by Putin, surprise surprise.” Jeremy replied: “True. But the brutal reality is, if you put on a uniform for Putin and you go and fight his war, you probably deserve to die, don’t you?” His blunt response shocked many viewers, with some demanding he is taken off air.

One wrote on Twitter: "really shocked you said this Jeremy. There have been stories suggesting Russian conscripts didn’t know they were going to invade Ukraine and some have suggested Russian commanders have executed their own wounded." Another said: "What a pathetic excuse for a human being.
