Jo-Issa Rae Diop (born January 12, 1985), known as Issa Rae, is an American actress, writer, director, producer, and web series creator. She first garnered attention for her work on the YouTube web series Awkward Black Girl. She subsequently gained further recognition for creating, co-writing, and starring in the HBO television series Insecure. For her acting work on Insecure, she has received two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

justjared.comIssa Rae is taking on a new project. The 36-year-old Insecure actress is partnering with HBO Max and Miramax for a revival of the critically acclaimed docuseries Project Greenlight, per Variety.
The upcoming series will adhere to a similar format as the original, which ran from 2001-2003 and was briefly revived in 2005 and again in 2015.
However, the new iteration of the show will center on talented female filmmakers who are given the opportunity to direct a feature film. Issa will act as an executive producer for their work and appear in every episode, offering her guidance to the filmmakers.
