Bodies of the victims, including children, were found hacked to pieces and scattered across the woods in northern Mozambique on Monday.
It is thought some of the victims were participating in a male initiation ceremony, with at least 15 boys among the dead. Female villagers were also abducted in the horrific attack.
Gunmen chanted "Allah Akbar" [God is greatest] fired shots and torched homes in a village raid on Friday night, the BBC reports.
