Jan Bednarek scored the game’s only goal at the end of the first half after the visitors failed to clear a corner.The Gunners dominated the second half, but came up against Fraser Forster, who was in inspired form in Southampton’s goal.
Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Granit Xhaka were all denied by the giant keeper, who helped put a huge dent in Arsenal’s hopes of finishing in the top four.Manchester United ’s 3-2 win over Norwich pushed Arsenal down to sixth place and places even more pressure on their game in-hand against Chelsea on Wednesday.
Defeat at St Mary’s did not go down well with Arsenal legend Wright, who reacted by posting a confusing video on Twitter. In it Wright is seen singing along to Simon & Garfunkel classic “Bridge over Troubled Water” while driving along in his car.
