Police are hunting for a gang whose pack of savage dogs attacked and killed nearly 50 sheep grazing in the heart of a famous beauty spot.
Police say 16 of the animals died instantly and 30 more were so badly injured they had to be put down by a vet.The incident happened on a two-mile stretch of the River Stour between Flatford and Cattawade on the Suffolk-Essex border – known as Constable Country because it is the backdrop to many of artist John Constable's works.Police say the incident happened between Sunday night and Monday morning when the carnage was discovered.Investigators say it is strongly suspected that dogs that were not on a lead – which they should have been – and were responsible for the slaughter of the flock, which was worth.
