campus lockdowns across Scotland, Richard Leonard has warned. The Scottish Labour leader criticised ministers at Holyrood and Westminster for failing to heed expert advice on the risks posed by undergraduates returning en masse to halls of residence this month.
Professor Mark Woolhouse, who sits on the UK Government's pandemic modelling group, said today the situation in universities was "entirely predictable".The Edinburgh University academic, an expert on infectious diseases, also warned repeated lockdowns would not solve the problem of Covid transmission in the community.
It comes as hundreds of students have fled campuses to return home – breaking strict Government Covid rules in the process.
