Nicola Sturgeon urged to create new football fund to save struggling clubs

Nicola Sturgeon has been called on to set up an emergency fund to stop football clubs going bust.Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard urged the Government to find a pot of cash that could be used to save the grassroots game.He said: “No-one wants to see clubs go bust, but that is exactly the danger unless a generous system of grants is put in place.”Football revenues have taken a massive hit during the pandemic as fans have not been allowed to attend matches.The lower leagues are still not back in action and lost ticket revenue has led to fears some clubs could close their doors forever by Christmas.Leonard believes a ‘Scottish Football Aid’ fund, bankrolled by the Government, is necessary to save our national sport.He believes.
