Makokou, a male western lowland gorilla who lives in Johannesburg Zoo in South Africa, was suffering from mysterious growths in his nostrils which were giving vets cause for concern.
Zoo staff first raised concerns in May after the 34-year-old jungle beast was suffering a severe discharge from his nose and was not responding to treatment.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo spokesperson Jenny Moodley said: "During [the] procedure it was discovered that Makokou had a nasal growth which had been causing his symptoms."She continued: "A biopsy of this was taken and sent for histopathology."The results revealed that he has.
