Arsenal let two of their more experienced players leave in the January transfer window as Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi both departed the club.
Mustafi, who joined Schalke, made his debut for the Bundesliga side over the weekend against RB Leipzig. The relegation candidates are struggling at the moment and haven’t won since the start of January.
Mustafi started against Leipzig but was disappointing, with his manager Christian Gross criticising his performance. Gross said: “I’m not 100 per cent satisfied with his performance, but with his commitment. “He tried everything.
He stabilised the defence and gave many instructions. For the future, he is definitely the right transfer, I am convinced of that.
