Ryan Giggs could have taken over from Sir Alex Ferguson if he had retired at 35 rather than 40. Giggs left Manchester United in 2016 after 29-year association with the club, but he failed to achieve his dream of becoming their permanent first-team manager.
The former Wales international made a record 963 appearances for the Red Devils, retiring in May of 2014, a year after Ferguson had left United as Premier League champions.
Giggs went on to manage the club on four occasions before serving as assistant to Louis Van Gaal for two seasons, taking charge of the Wales senior side following the departure of Chris Coleman in 2018.
