Hibs and Hearts dealt Europa League blow as UEFA inform SFA of European placings procedure

UEFA have told the SFA that the Europa League spot held by the Scottish Cup must be given to the next highest placed league team if the competition can't be completed.

And that would be good news for Rangers who would now go into the second qualifying round of the Europa League instead of the first round, but it would end any hopes Hearts or Hibs have of playing in Europe next term.

The Scottish Cup is on hold at the moment, along with the Premiership, because of the coronavirus pandemic that has put football into lockdown.

Holders Celtic were due to face Aberdeen in the semi-finals, while Hearts and Hibs were set to battle out an Edinburgh Derby at Hampden last month, with both fixtures postponed indefinitely.
