family of a young woman who died after experiencing a sudden headache have said it is 'not possible' that drink contributed to her death, an inquest has heard.Gaia Young, 25, who was the daughter of a Labour peer, died last year after she was rushed to the hospital feeling seriously unwell while cycling in London. The inquest heard that as healthy Gaia was taken into hospital she told doctors she 'made a mistake' before her condition deteriorated.
The inquest was told that Gaia arrived at the University College Hospital "confused" and fell in and out of sleep. She was also "dehydrated and agitated" with doctors later telling the court that they believe she was suffering from generalised cerebral edema, a dangerous condition that causes the brain to swell.
However, her family have since said that chances to save Gaia were missed. Gaia, who was described as 'clean living' by her family, was the daughter of Lord Michael Young and is the half brother to journalist Toby Young.
Speaking at the inquest, her mother Lady Young, Dorit Uhlemann said: "I believe that with proper care she need not have died."I believe she lost the chance to live.
